The Power of Three
Each Learning theme lesson plan is made up of three key words, which are not only the title of the unit but also show what the key focus of the learning is. Each year group has a wide selection of Learning themes to choose from.

Every Learning theme lesson plan includes a knowledge and skills organiser page which includes the declarative and procedural knowledge the children will learn in the unit across three learning domains - Masterful mover, Skilful solver and Confident connector.

Holistic Success Criteria
It is essential within PE that all children have the opportunity to be successful not just those with more able physical competencies. Each lesson plan has clear success criteria which provides opportunities for success within different learning domains - Move, Solve, Connect.

Fundamental Movement Skills
As recent Ofsted research suggests, PE needs to place a high priority on the development of fundamental movement skills across all key stages. Each lesson plan clearly identifies the targeted fundamental movement skills which will be developed within the learning theme.
Learning Activities
Out with the dated practice of warm up, skill, drill and a game (if we have time!) and a focus on specific learning activities to engage children to move, solve and connect. Our lesson plans have two learning activities - Activation and Base - which allow children time to deepen their learning.
Adaptive teaching
The key to a successful lesson is allowing the children to adapt to the learning activity so they can succeed at their level. All the activities within each learning theme have possible adaptations which can be made to support or challenge learners. This is done through the STEP model - Adapting the Space, Task, Equipment and People.

Mastery learning
Children need opportunities to deepen and master their learning not be rushed through content where knowledge and skills do not stick. Beyond the Physical Learning theme lesson plans use 'Revisit, Review, Learn something new' to ensure previous lesson content is revisited and the children are only moved on, if appropriate, after their learning has been reviewed.
Connection questions
The use of high quality questioning is vital to effective assessment. Offering some key questions allows those using the lesson plans to connect with the children and identify where they are at with their learning.
Simple effective assessment
Assessment must be simple, effective and inform the next steps in learning. Teachers do not need endless lists of tick boxes which are done at the end of a block of learning. Our assessment page provides space to identify where children are in their learning across all three domains and can be constantly edited and updated as the learning progresses.
